Marian Christmas Tournament Championship- JHS vs. Marian - Thursday, December 28

The Skyhawks came into the championship game against Marian knowing they would need to play their best to beat the Hurricanes. Trailing by 4 at halftime, the girls gave themselves a chance to win the tournament. The Hawks played hard but came up a little short, losing to Marian 44 - 32. For the game the Hawks were 10 / 11 from the free throw line.

The second place finish was the 3rd time in 4 years that the Hawks have lost to Marian in the championship game.

Alexis Wisniewski led the Hawks again with 8 points. She also had 11 rebounds and 2 steals.
Elly Nusser had 8 points and 4 rebounds.
Amanda Daly had 7 points and 2 steals.
Courtney Bielis had 7 points and 7 rebounds before fouling out.
Danielle Slivka had 5 rebounds.

Alexis Wisniewski was chosen to the 6 person all tournament team. Great job Alexis!!!!!

Coming into the 3rd game of the Marian Christmas Tournament, the Hawks didn't need to win to move into the Championship against Marian, but since it was Richmond, they still wanted to. At halftime, the Hawks found themselves down by 3. The Skyhawks had 15 points, 15 rebounds and 15 turnovers coming out of the locker room at halftime. The girls played much better in the second half and easily distanced the Rockets in the second half.

Alexis Wisniewski led the Hawks again with 9 points, 4 rebounds and was 3 / 4 from the line.
Amanda Daly provided the second half spark scoring 6 points.
Tara Stefka played her best game of the year, getting 6 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists and a steal.
Elizabeth Janik also played her best game of the year with 5 points and 3 steals.
Myka Kopystynsky rounded out the trifecta by playing her best game of the year too. Myka had 4 points and 5 rebounds.

The victory gives the Skyhawks an 8 - 2 record heading into the championship game of the Marian Christmas Tournament later today against the Hurricanes.

The Skyhawks battled the much larger Red Raiders for 4 quarters in the second game of the Marian Christmas tournament. The Hawks were down 12 - 8 after the first quarter and down 20 - 17 at half. The Hawks stayed in the game shooting a remarkable 83% from the free throw line. Outscoring the Raiders by 1 in the 3rd got the Hawks to within 2 at 28 - 26. In the 4th quarter the sophs shut down Huntley, holding them to 6 points, while freshman Danielle Slivka scored 5 points in the last 1:30 to give the Hawks a 1 point lead. With 5 seconds to go, Huntley called time to set up a full court inbounds play. Coach D and Tara Stefka both noticed that the Hawks had only committed 3 fouls in the half. After each inbounds pass the Hawks fouled Huntley until the clock ran out. The victory puts the Hawks in the championship game tomorrow in the Marian Christmas Tournament.

Alexis Wisniewski led the Hawks with 8 points including 6 for 6 from the foul line. Chandler Sommerfeldt and Danielle Slivka had 7 points each.

Marian Christmas Tournament - JHS vs. Prairie Ridge - Wednesday, December 27

The Skyhawks started the Marian Christmas Tournament with a victory over the Prairie Ridge Wolves, 32 - 23. A close game for 3 quarters, but the Hawks turned it on in the fourth for a 9 point victory.

The sophs were 12 / 27 from the field (44%) and 8 / 16 from the free throw line (50%), not too shabby. Maybe their coach is wrong and they can shoot.

Alexis Wisniewski had 11 points, 3 rebounds and 2 steals.
Elly Nusser had 10 points, including 2 crucial baskets in the 4th quarter and 8 rebounds.
Chandler Sommerfeldt had 2 rebounds and 4 assists and 2 steals.
Courtney Bielis had 8 rebounds off the bench from her guard spots and 3 assists.
Freshmen Danielle Slivka had 4 points in her first sophomore game.
Elizabeth Janik shot 50% from the field and played a very nice defensive game.
Tara Stefka had 2 rebounds, 2 steals and 2 assists.
Amanda Daly played suffocating defense and ripped down 3 rebounds.
Brittany McNish had 2 blocked shots and 3 rebounds.
Myka Kopystynsky had 2 rebounds and about 12 bone crushing screens.

With the victory, the girls ran their record to 6 - 2.

Next game - Wednesday, December 27 @ 5 PM vs. Huntley.

The Hawks finished their portion of the Sweet 16 Tournament 1 - 1 with a convincing victory over the New Trier Trevians 39 - 27. Despite being 3 inches shorter at each position, the Hawks pulled down 34 rebounds. The quicker Hawks also had 15 steals.

Alexis Wisniewski lead the Hawks again in scoring with 11. She also had 4 steals. Heather Miller had 9 points and 9 assists. Amanda Daly scored 7 points for the game but had 4 huge points during the 4th quarter. Amanda also had 6 rebounds. Courtney Bielis had 5 rebounds from the point guard spot along with 3 steals and 3 assists. Elly Nusser had 5 rebounds coming off the bench.

The Hawks are now 5 - 2.

The Hawks came out of the lockerroom clicking on all cylinders. Making backdoor cuts for lay ups and dominating the boards like they usually do, the sophomore girls cruised to a convincing victory over the Cary Grove Trojans. Amanda Daly scored the first six points of the game for the Skyhawks to get them off to a hot start. Alexis Wisniewski scored 11 points for the Hawks while getting 9 rebounds. Chandler Sommerfeldt played her best game of the year defensively while scoring 9 points. Chandler added 2 assists and 3 steals. Heather Miller had 7 points, 10 rebounds and 3 assists. Courtney Bielis scored 6 points had 4 assists and 10 rebounds.

The girls had 54 rebounds for the game.

The sophomores are now 4 -1 in Fox Valley Crossover games and 4 - 2 overall.

Talk about rebounding, defense and a patient offense. The Hawks had 35 rebounds, 22 offensive rebounds, 18 steals and 14 deflections to beat the 5 - 4 McHenry Warriors. For the second consecutive game, the Skyhawks shot more than 40 free throws by taking the ball aggressively to the basket. The Hawks also took good care of the ball in the second half to finish with only 15 turnovers.

Heather Miller had 13 points, 9 rebounds and 4 steals.
Courtney Bielis had 8 points (4-6 from the line), 4 rebounds, 3 assists and 7 steals.
Alexis Wisniewski had 8 points and 7 rebounds.
Amanda Daly had 5's everywhere. 5 points, 5 rebounds and 5 steals.
Elly Nusser came off the bench and had 9 rebounds.

The Sophs are now 3 - 2.

The Skyhawks spotted the Eagles a 10 - 1 lead in the first4 minutes and then switched out of their 2 - 3 zone to fight back into the game. At halftime, the score was tied at 15. The sophomore Hawks played great team defense and made just enough of their 40 free throws to pull off the 39 - 34 victory. The Hawks are now 2 - 2 on the season.

Alexis Wiesniewski enjoyed her birthday weekend by leading the Hawks with 8 points, 5 rebounds and 5 steals. Heather Miller had 7 points, 8 rebounds and 2 steals. Courtney Bielis had 6 points, 5 rebounds, 3 steals and 6 assists.

JHS Sophs vs. Fenwick, Thursday, December 7, 2006

The Sophomore Hawks looked like they spent the last 2 hours on a bus as they took the floor against the Fenwick Friars. Playing well, the Hawks couldn't contain Fenwick's red hot shooting and found themselves down 25-9 at the end of the first quarter. The Skyhawks began the second quarter finding a rhythm of their own and fought back against the Friars. Heather Miller's jump shot at the buzzer put the Hawks down five. The sophs maintained their momentum and led Fenwick for most of the third period. Foul trouble and fatigue were the Hawks biggest foe as Fenwick ended the quarter with a 4 point lead. Fenwick again shot lights out in the fourth quarter to run away with the victory.

Heather Miller had an outstanding game leading the way with 15 points. Courtney Bielis added 8.

The sophomores didn't shoot very well in their non-conference loss to the Blue Streaks at Woodstock HS. Alexis Wiesniewski again led the Hawks in scoring with 10 points while Heather Miller chipped in 7.

The sophomores overcame a 1st period deficit to beat the Gators for the second time in 3 days. Tara Stefka had 8 points and Elizabeth Janik pitched in with 6. Practice Tuesday at 2:30.

JHS vs. Crystal Lake South, Saturday, December 2, 2006

After five weeks of practice, the sophomore girls finally got onto the court for their first game. Defense was the name of the game as the sophs beat South 34 - 24. Alexis Wiesniewski led the way for the Hawks with 11 points and 6 rebounds. Heather Miller had 8 points and a handful of assists. Courtney Bielis had 9 rebounds and 4 assists.

Next up for the Hawks is a B game at South on Monday, December 4th. Bus time is 4:15.
