JHS Sophs vs. Huntley - Saturday, January 12, 2008

JHS 41
Huntley 34

The sophomores came out and played the best 5 minute stretch of the season to jump ahead of Huntley 11 to 0. The Hawks continued to play well and led 21 to 10 at halftime. Playing aggressive defense and finding the open player on offense, the Hawks cruised to a 36 to 20 3rd quarter lead. Then, like Thursday against McHenry, the young Skyhawks couldn't find a way to score and with 2:04 to play in the game, the sophs led 36 to 34. But, like all great teams do, they shut down the visiting Red Raiders, made some free throws and a tough Jordyn Schwagerman jumper to win 41 to 34.

For the game, the Skyhawks shot 34% (13-38) from the field while Huntley shot 25% (13-52.)
The Hawks pulled in 21 defensive rebounds and 14 offensive rebounds to finish with 35. Huntley had 12 defensive and 18 offensive for 30 total rebounds.
Johnsburg committed 25 turnovers to Huntley's 22.

Krista Volden shook off some early game rust to lead the Hawks again in scoring with 10 while adding 10 rebounds and 5 steals. Susan Conroy played well again and hit for 9 points and 3 rebounds and didn't miss a shot all game, Chandler Sommerfeldt chipped in with 8 points, 5 assists and 4 rebounds and a couple of 3 pointers and Maddie Scharf got 7 points and 4 rebounds. Jordyn Schwagerman had 5 points, 5 rebounds and 4 blocked shots. Brenna Decker played great defense and got 3 steals.

The Hawks are now 14 - 3 overall and 2 - 0 in the Fox Valley.

Chandler, since you asked:
We missed 10 breakaway layups and also turned the ball over 4 times on breakaway layups. We missed 6 put backs (offensive rebounds that we got right under the basket) and 10 layups in our half court offense. That's 26 layups, 30 counting turnovers that we should have scored on. About 3 of them were on the same trip down the floor so we should have scored 54 more points.
