Soph Girls vs. Woodstock - Tuesday, November 27, 2007

The sophomore girls ran out to a 24 - 13 halftime lead and hung on to beat the Blue Streaks by 4 at "The Cage" in Johnsburg. Krista Volden again led the Hawks in scoring, dropping in 10 points. Susan Conroy and Madeline Scharf added 7 while Chandler Sommerfeldt was perfect from the free throw line to help out with 6 points.

With their victory, the Hawks are now 5-1. Crystal Lake South is next up for the girls on Saturday in Crystal Lake.

Practice on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday is at 2:30.

Soph Girls vs. Niles North - Saturday, November 25, 2007

The Skyhawks finished the Niles North Thanksgiving Tournament with a convincing win over the host Pirates. Leading 18 - 12 at half, the Hawks played well in the 3rd period to extend their lead to 11 and then poured it on in the 4th outscoring the hosts 20 to 2. Krista Volden scored 13 points to pace the Hawks, while Jordyn Schwagerman had 9, Susan Conroy 8 and Lauren Rodgers 7.

The sophomore girls finish the tournament in a 3 way tie for 1st with Fenwick and Resurrection. The tie breaker is based on free throw percentage. The tournament champ will be announced later.

Soph Girls vs. Resurrection - Friday, November 24, 2007

The sophs trailed Resurrection after the 1st quarter and couldn't catch the Bandits the rest of the way out. Brenna Decker came off the bench in the 3rd quarter and scored 2 quick buckets to give the Hawks a chance, but Resurrection hit their free throws down the stretch to clinch the victory. Krista Volden's 9 points led the way for Johnsburg, with Jordyn Schwagerman and Susan Conroy adding 8 each.

The Hawks are now 3 - 1 for the season.

JHS Soph Girls vs. Wheeling - Niles North Thanksgiving Tournament - Tuesday, November 20, 2007

The sophomore Skyhawks pulled off a stunning victory over the host Wildcats on Tuesday, winning 29 to 27. For 24 minutes and 7 seconds, the Hawks looked like they had already eaten their Thanksgiving dinner and were ready for an afternoon nap. But in the last 2:53 the Hawks came alive. When Maddie Scharf came off the bench after a timeout to drain a 3, the Hawks took the lead for good and hung on to beat Wheeling in their own gym. Lauren Rodgers and Brenna Decker came off the bench to give the Hawks' defense a little spark and Chandler Sommerfeldt's 10 points lead the Hawks.

The sophs are now 3-0 in the tournament and on the season. With a victory over Resurrection on Friday, the Hawks would clinch the tournament championship.

Wednesday's practice is optional. You may go at 9:30 with the freshmen or 2:30 with the varsity. Please be at school on Friday @ 2:30 for a walk through and shoot around. The bus leaves at 3:15.

Soph Girls vs. Proviso East - Saturday, November 18, 2007

Staring at front line of 6'2", 6'2" and 6'2", the Johnsburg girls were admittedly worried. Leading 2 - 0 with about 2 minutes to go in the first, Lauren Rodgers came off the bench and scored 6 straight points to jump start the offense. Proviso East didn't score until a couple of minutes remained in the first half. The Pirates cut the lead to 28 - 25, but the Hawks outscored Proviso 13 to 2 to finish the game. The official stats will follow, but Jordyn Schwagerman led the way for the Hawks with 11 blocked shots.

Soph Girls vs. Fenwick - Friday, November 17, 2007

The sophomore girls scored the first 4 points of the game and then went into a deep freeze, but scored a few more to trail 14 to 9 at halftime. Coming out in the second half with a full court press, the Hawks turned the momentum in their favor and tied the game at the end of regulation. The Hawks outscored the Friars 9 to 6 in overtime to win the first game of the season.

Krista Volden scored 14 points to lead the Skyhawks. Chandler Sommerfeldt scored 13, including 9 in the fourth quarter and overtime. Freshman Susan Conroy chipped in with 8 in her first high school game.

First Week

Girls,
