Mary Kate Wright scored 8 of the Skyhawks 10 first quarter points as the Hawks led by 2 at the end of the first. The Hawks and Wolves played even in the 2nd and the sophs took a 2 point lead into halftime. Led by 4 Tayelor Neiss points to start the third quarter, the Hawks quickly jumped out to an 8 point lead. The Wolves couldn't catch up and the sophs won 35 to 25.

JHS is now 17 - 5 overall and 5 - 1 in the Fox Valley.

Fun game info:
  • Mary Kate Wright led the Hawks with 10 points and 7 rebounds
  • Morgan Berge dished out 4 assists
  • Tayelor Neiss had 5 steals, with Morgan Berge and Mary Kate Wright snaring 4 each
  • Jessica Stubitsch, Tayelor Neiss and Morgan Berge each had 3 deflected passes
  • Tara Connerty added 7 points while her Grandfather watched from the stands. What a nice man.

Falling behind 14 - 5 late in the first half, the Skyhawks fought back to trail by 3 at halftime. Using tremendous full court pressure in the third and fourth quarters, the Hawks were able to beat the Red Raiders by 7 at the Johnsburg gymnasium. The Red Raiders lost for only the 5th time all season, falling to 15 - 5, while the sophomore Hawks moved to 4 - 1 in the Fox Valley and 16 - 5 overall. Ashley Schuld led the Hawks with 19 points, the season high for the Hawks.

B game tomorrow - Be dressed by 5.

The sophomore Skyhawks played their best 3 quarters of the year, outscoring the much bigger Eagles 34 to 30 in the 1st, 2nd and 4th quarters. However, they were outcoached in the 3rd and fell to Sandburg in a Saturday afternoon matinee.

Johnsburg falls to 15 - 5 while Sandburg improves to 17 - 4.

  • The Hawks were 12 out of 17 from the line for the game (63%)
  • Mary Kate Wright led the Hawks with 9 points and had 3 steals
  • Morgan Berge added 7 points
  • Ashley Schuld also scored 7 points

The sophs scored their first two points three seconds into the game and didn't look back as they cruised to a victory over the host Tigers.

The victory puts the Skyhawks at 15 - 4 overall and 3 - 1 in the FVC.

Game highlights to follow.
  • The Hawks held the Tigers to only 6 offensive rebounds
  • The sophomores had a season low 10 turnovers
  • Tara Connerty led the way with 10 rebounds

The Hawks lost their first game in over a month, dropping their contest with the Grayslake Central Rams 49 to 44. Down by 11 at half, the sophs erupted for 20 points in the 3rd quarter to cut the Central lead to 1 point. The Rams held on in the 4th to beat the sophomore Hawks. Grayslake Central is now 14 - 3 for the season and take over first place in the FVC with a 3-0 record. JHS drops to 14 - 4 and 2 - 1 in the conference.

Interesting stats for the game:
  • JHS shot well, going 20 for 37 from the field for 54.1%
  • but, only managed to get 4 offensive rebounds - our low for the season
  • It seemed like we had 5o turnovers, but we only had 29.
  • Tayelor Neiss lead the team with 5 steals
  • Tayelor Neiss lead the team with 6 deflected passes
  • Tayelor Neiss lead the team with 9 points
  • Tayelor Neis lead the team shooting 80% from the field.
  • Morgan Berge dished out 5 assists and had 4 deflections
  • Mary Kate Wright blocked 2 shots and 6 rebounds
  • Katie Weingart had 3 assists, 3 steals and 4 deflections

The Hawks jumped out to a 13 to 6 first quarter lead behind the rebounding efforts of Miss Ashley Schuld. In fact, at the end of the first quarter, Ashley was beating Prairie Ridge 8 to 6. Ashley finished the first half with 14 points and finished the game with 16 as the sophs won 41 to 31. Tara Connerty added 7 points and Tayelor Neiss and Mary Kate Wright chipped in with 6 each.

The sophomores are now 2 - 0 in the Fox Valley and 14 - 3 overall.

Interesting game facts:
  • The Hawks had a season high 6 blocked shots
  • For the first time all year, Tara Connerty made every free throw she took in a game. - Nice job Tara!
  • Ashley Schuld had her third double double of the season with 16 points and 10 rebounds.
  • Morgan Berge had a season high for the sophomore Hawks with 8 assists

Remember - study session from 12:30 to 2:30 on Wednesday.

JHS vs. Jacobs - Saturday, January 10, 2009

The sophs found themselves down by 6 early in the first quarter. But when Katie Weingart dropped in a buzzer beater to end the first half, the Hawks were up by 5. Taking care of the ball and finding open teammates for easy scores, the Hawks beat the pesky Golden Eagles by 10. Ashley Schuld had 13 points and Morgan Berge had 10 for the Hawks.

Interesting stats
  • The sophs shot 67% from the field in the first half
  • We had 14 turnovers in the first half, but cut that down to 8 in the second half
  • The girls made 17 field goals, 14 of them were assists from teammates. Our highest percentage of the year (82.4%)
  • Morgan Berge shot 57% from the field, had 6 assists, 4 steals and only 1 turnover
  • Mary Kate Wright had 8 rebounds, 5 steals and 5 assists
  • Ashley Schuld had another double double with 13 points and 10 rebounds

JHS vs. Grayslake North - Thursday, January 8, 2009

The Hawks jumped out to a 14 to 1 first quarter lead against the Knights forcing them into 8 turnovers. The single point given up by the sophs was only the 13th point scored against them in the last 7 quarters. Way to D it up ladies! But the Knights fought back and with a minute to go in the game, the Skyhawks found themselves up 35 - 33. Mary Kate Wright hit a couple of free throws and Tayelor Neiss' defense helped seal the victory.

Key stats:
  • Grayslake North was held to only 6 offensive rebounds.
  • The Skyhawks missed 25 shots, but got 18 of them back in offensive rebounds.
  • Mary Kate Wright had a double double with 13 points and 12 rebounds.
  • Tayelor Neiss had 6 deflections and 2 steals.
The victory gives the sophomores a 12 - 3 record overall and 1 - 0 in the Fox Valley.

Despite having to work with Coach O'Niel, the sophs beat Jacobs in a B game on Monday night 33 to 22. Nice job ladies!
