In the battle for the Fox Valley Conference sophomore championship, the young Skyhawks looked impressive early, jumping out to a 10 to 5 first quarter lead. In the second, the Rams turned up the defensive pressure and forced the sophs into numerous turnovers and led at halftime 16 - 14. The Skyhawks couldn't get closer than 4 points the rest of the way to lose 33 - 27. With their victory, the Rams are 18-2, while the Skyhawks drop to 18-7.

Stephanie Cherwin led the Hawks with 9 points and 4 rebounds.

This was a battle from the opening tipoff. The defensive intensity was high on both sides of the court all night. The game was scoreless until the Morgan Berge made a free throw with 3:30 to go in the first quarter. The Hawks led 4 - 2 at the end of one quarter. In the second, the lid was taken off the hoop and the sophs outscored the Knights 13 to 7 in the second. Led by Steph Cherwin's 4 points in the 3rd quarter, the Skyhawks led 26 to 14 after 3. The girls played even with GLN in the 4th and won their 18th game of the season. With their win, the girls are now 18-6 on the year and 8 - 1 in the Fox Valley.

Stephanie Cherwin set some kind of record tonight, shooting 22 free throws. Morgan Berge led the Hawks with 8 points.

The sophomores came out clicking on all cylinders and took it to the Blue Streaks, leading 29 to 10 at half. The Hawks coasted to the easy victory in Woodstock. Morgan Berge scored 12 points, Stephanie Cherwin added 11, while Tayelor Neiss hit a couple of threes and finished with 8. The sophomores are now 17 - 6 for the season and 7 - 1 in conference.

Practice is at 2:45 on Wednesday.

In their closest game of the year, the Skyhawks beat the visiting Wolves 39 to 38. Jumping out to a 21 to 16 halftime lead behind 9 first half points by Sam Medrano, the Hawks were complimented by Coach Toussaint who said that was the best he had seen the sophs play all year. But the scrappy Wolves wouldn't back down and outscored the Hawks 15 to 7 in the 3rd quarter. Trailing 31 to 28 to start the fourth quarter, the Hawks fought back to take the lead in the fourth with 3 minutes to play. The Hawks and Wolves traded baskets until the last minute when the Skyhawks jumped ahead and held on for a one point victory. Ashley Schuld and Haley Stark scored all 11 points for the Skyhawks in the fourth quarter.

Ashley Schuld scored 15 points to lead the Skyhawks. Ashley's 15 points, (in her last sophomore game) let her pass Heather Miller as the leading sophomore scorer this century. Ashley has scored 372 points in the last two years, averaging 8.1 points per game.

Sam Medrano scored all her 9 points in the first half to jump start the Hawks offense, Morgan Berge scored 6 points and Haley Stark added 5.

The sophomores are now 16-6 on the season.

The Skyhawks played their most error free and consistent game of the season against the Tigers. The Hawks had 8 turnovers (a sophomore all time low) and scored 10, 11, 11, 10 points in each of the four quarters to win their 15th game of the year. Morgan Berge scored 8 points, Genna Gallina added 7, while Sam Medrano, Jessica Myers and Ashley Schuld each added 6.

Remember we have a B game tomorrow at home at 5:30PM against Grayslake Central.

The Skyhawks finished their toughest week of the year with a huge victory over the New Trier Trevians, 45 to 20. Leading by only 5 after 1, the sophs held New Trier scoreless in the second quarter and led 39 to 14 after 3. Morgan Berge scored 10 points and Ashley Schuld added 9 to lead the Hawks. The sophomores are now 14 - 6 for the season and 4 - 1 in conference.

The Skyhawks came out from the opening tap and took it to the Thunder, leading 12 to 2 after the first period and extended their lead to 34 to 8 after 3. The Skyhawks had their most balanced scoring of the year. Genna Gallina, Morgan Berge, Nicole Grant and Haley Stark each scored 8 and Stephanie Cherwin added 7.

After a two hour bus ride, the Skyhawks came out a played 3 really good quarters, but the girls were outscored 12 to 0 in the third quarter and that was enough for the Maine South Hawks to defeat JHS by 10. Ashley Schuld led the Hawks with 8 points and 14 rebounds.

The sophs played their first game in 15 days and the girls were a little rusty. Falling behind 16 to 8 after one, the girls battled back and trailed by only 1 after 3, but the Rams held off the pesky Skyhawks and won by 6. Sam Medrano led the way with 12 points.
