Tuesday's game started off close, with Jacobs leading 8 to 6 in the first quarter.  The Skyhawks then went on a 20 to 2 run, including shutting out the Eagles in the 2nd quarter, to lead 26 - 10 at halftime.  After outscoring Jacobs 22 to 12 in the second half, the Skyhawks claimed their 3rd victory of the season and 3rd in a row.

Megan Landazzi had a season high 15 points to pace the sophs.  Maddie Himpelmann and Emily Leclair each added 7.  Maycee Ward had 8 rebounds and Quiara Lawyer ripped down 7 boards.  Quiara also had 5 blocked shots.  In the steals department, the Skyhawks had 18 for the game.  (That's a lot!) Megan Landazzi, Maddie Himpelmann, Maycee Ward, Kelsey Stefka and Jill Bazan all had 3 steals.  Maddie and Megan also had 3 deflections.

The Skyhawks are now 3-3 on the season.  Our next game is against Prairie Ridge on Friday. 

Practice on Wednesday is from 2:30 to 3:30.  We also have a B game at 5:30.  Everyone should dress for the B game.  White uniforms.

JHS vs. Wheeling @ Niles North Thanksgiving Tournament - Saturday, November 27, 2010

The Skyhawks and the Wildcats battled for the full 28 minutes in the finale of the Niles North Thanksgiving Tournament.  The Skyhawks led at halftime by 4, but allowed Wheeling to score 14 in the third to tie the game up.  Trailing by 1 with two minutes to go, the Skyhawks made a couple of steals, made just enough free throws and got rebounds when they really needed it to finish off Wheeling, outscoring them 8 to 2 in the last minute.

Maddie Himpelmann had 3 steals and 5 points in the last minute of the game.  She finished with 10 points to lead the Hawks.  Kayla Toussaint added 7 points while Kelsey Stefka and Megan Landazzi each had 6.  Michaela Kopystynsky had 5 rebounds, Maycee Ward pulled down 4 boards and Quiara Lawyer had two huge blocked shots.

The sophs finished the tournament with a 2 - 3 record and a fourth place finish.

The Skyhawks won their first game of the year, smothering the Pirates in the second half and holding them to only 4 points in the half to come from behind and pick up the victory.  Trailing 22 to 16 in the fourth, Emily Pierce hit a baseline jumper to cut the lead to 4.  Kayla Toussaint then drained a three to make the score 22 to 21.  After a Kelsey Stefka driving baseline two, the Hawks were up 1.  Michaela Kopystynsky's 17 footer with seconds left capped off the 9 point run and sealed the victory.

Eight Skyhawks scored, Kelsey Stefka led the way with 5 points, Megan Landazzi and Michaela Kopystynsky had four points each, Kayla Toussaint and Jill Bazan both hit threes.  Maddie Himplemann, Emily Pierce and Emily Leclair all added a basket.

Maddie Himpelmann had 4 assists and 5 deflected passes. Kelsey, Michaela and Emily L all had 3 rebounds and Megan Landazzi had 2 steals.

Saturday's game is against Wheeling.  Bus time is 3:30.  The varsity play at 5:30 and the sophomores play at 7.

The Skyhawks started out strong, tied with the Bandits 8 to 8 after the first quarter.  A goose egg in the second period put the sophs down 23 to 8 at half.  Resurrection continued to cause the Skyhawks fits and forced numerous turnovers as they shot out to a 43 to 14 third quarter lead.

Jill Bazan led the Skyhawks with 5 points.  Michaela Kopystynsky and Megan Landazzi each had 4 points and 4 rebounds. Maddie Himpelmann had 2 steals.

Practice on Tuesday is from 11ish to 1.

Next game is Friday at Niles North.

JHS vs. Fenwick, Saturday, Novemeber 20. 2010

The sophomore Skyhawks played the always tough, always quick, always red hot Fenwick Friars on Saturday at the Niles North Thanksgiving Tournament.  Falling behind in the first quarter, the Hawks couldn't quite muster the same comeback as the night before and fell 65 to 21.

Kayla Toussaint scored six points on 2 three-pointers to lead the scoring and also dished out 2 assists. Megan Landazzi had 3 rebounds, Kelsey Stefka had 3 steals and Katie Poczkalski had 2 steals. 

Be dressed by 5PM on Monday night.  Our game with Resurrection starts at 5:30.

JHS vs. Niles North, Friday, November 19, 2010

The sophs got off to a rough start at the Niles North Thanksgiving Tournament against the host Vikings.  Trailing 24 to 6 in the second, with 17 turnovers, it didn't look good for the Skyhawks, but a great comeback ensued and next thing you know, we're in overtime and then another. The Skyhawks finally couldn't force a third overtime and lost 67-61.

The Hawks went to the line an amazing 51 times and made 30.  Kelsey Stefka and Megan Landazzi each were 10 for 12 from the line and Kayla Toussaint was 4 for 5, including making 2 with seconds to go to force another overtime.

Maddie Himpelman had 9 steals in the game, 6 deflections (Coach Frey's favorite stat), 4 assists and had NO turnovers. Kelsey Stefka led with 7 rebounds, with Quiara Lawyer ripping down 5 rebounds. Michaela Kopystynsky had the Skyhawks only block.

Bus time on Saturday is 2PM.

Meet the Hawks Night

Excellent job tonight ladies!  I thought it was the best you've looked all year.

It's Go Time

Practice for the sophomores and freshmen will begin on Monday, November 1.  Girls should be in the gym by 2:30.  Begin your stretching and ACL training.  Practice will begin promptly at 2:45.

NO ONE WILL BE ALLOWED TO PRACTICE WITHOUT A CLEARANCE CARD.
