The sophomore Hawks played a much better second half to put away the Vikings of Niles North on Saturday 41 to 22.

Morgan Berge and Mary Kate Wright each had 5 steals while Tayelor Neiss and Tara Connerty each had 5 rebounds to pace the Hawks. Morgan Berge also had 5 assists. Alyssa Moran had 3 deflections on the defensive end. The win gives the sophs a 3-2 record on the season and a third place finish in the Niles North Thanksgiving tournament.

JHS vs. Resurrection - Friday, November 28, 2008

The sophomore Hawks played their closest game of the season on Friday, losing by two to the always tough Bandits from Resurrection High School. Tied at 33 all with 11 seconds to go, Resurrection scored to take a two point lead. The Hawks had two tries to tie the game, but both shots wouldn't go in.

Morgan Berge was 5 out of 6 at the free throw line and had 3 steals.Tayelor Neiss had 2 assists and 2 steals. Katie Weingart also had 2 assists.
Mary Kate Wright grabbed 10 rebounds on the game, the rest of the Skyhawks grabbed 14.

The sophomores are now 2-2 on the season and will take on Niles North Saturday. Game time is 4PM, bus time is 2:15 PM.

Friday's Game

Girls should be ready to leave JHS by 2 PM on Friday as we travel to Niles North to take on the always tough Resurrection Bandits. Game time is 5:30. The varsity plays immediately before.

The sophs pulled off their second come from behind victory in a row, defeating the Wheeling Wildcats Monday night. The sophs jumped out to an early lead thanks to 8 steals in the first quarter (5 by Mary Kate Wright.)

Down, 19 to 15 in the third quarter, the Hawks outscored Wheeling 12 to 1 in the last two minutes of the third quarter and fourth quarter to go 2 - 1 on the season.

The Hawks had 14 steals for the game, Mary Kate Wright had 5, Jessica Stubitsch had 3 and Katie Weingart and Morgan Berge had 2 each.

Ashley Schuld snared 10 rebounds, while Taylor Jackson and Jessica Stubitsch each had 3.

In a tightly fought, seesaw battle the sophomore girls held off the Lady Pirates of Proviso East to win their first game of the season on Saturday night. Ashley Schuld lead the Hawks with 8 rebounds. The pressure in the backcourt enabled the sophs to get 11 steals on the night. Mary Kate Wright had 4, with Morgan Berge and Katie Weingart getting 3 each. Mary Kate Wright battled the Proviso East 6 footers all night and did a fabulous job getting 5 offensive rebounds. Jessica Stubisch and Katie Weingart knocked down big shots all night. The sophomores are now 1-1 and tied for 2nd place in the Niles North Thanksgiving tournament.

Next game is Monday at Johnsburg vs. Wheeling at 6PM. Players should be on the floor, ready to play at 5:30.

The sophomore girls began their 2008-09 season travelling to beautiful Oak Park to take on the Fenwick Friars. After a 2 hour bus ride and a case of first game jitters, the sophs started out a little slow but settled down and played good basketball in the second half.

The sophs will take on Proviso East Saturday in the second game of the Niles North Thanksgiving tournament at Niles North HS in Skokie.

All girls should be at the high school at 3PM.

Meet the Skyhawks Night

The sophomores beat the freshmen tonight at the annual Meet the Hawks night. Everyone played hard and did a nice job. It was very nice meeting your parents and I'm looking forward to a fun year.

The schedule for this week:

Monday - 2:30 to 4:30 in the back gym
Tuesday - 2:30 to 4:30 with the freshmen girls
Wednesday - 2:30 to 4:30 in the back gym
Thursday - 2:30 to 4:30 with the freshmen girls
Friday - Game vs. Fenwick in Oak Park. Game time is 6, be ready to leave at 3:15.
Saturday - Game vs. Proviso East @ Niles North High School bus time 3:45

Practice Schedule and Info

The sophomore girls will practice everyday this week at 2:45 in the back gym. We will also practice on Saturday from 10 until 12.

On Monday, please get dressed and meet in Coach Frey's classroom (Room 113) by 2:40.

Next Sunday we will scrimmage the freshmen in the annual Meet the Skyhawks night.

Basketball Season Begins

Ladies, practice for sophomores and freshmen will take place Monday through Friday from 2:30 to 4:30 and Saturday from 10 to 12. Monday through Wednesday will be tryouts to see who will be playing on the sophomore team.

Make sure you have your clearance cards and are ready to start at 2:30.
